Tasland

Tasmania is a beautiful part of the world, of which there are many beautiful places.
I've decided it's time to see them all.

Rainbow delights an all things nice!

Winter has been cold here in Melbourne and I have spent most of it hidden under the doona and moping around pondering brighter times.  The good news is it only takes a little sunshine & the smell of blossoms to welcome spring and get the creative energy flowing again.

Northern Exposure
I was involved in this collaborative installation in the Westpac Bank in High Street Northcote as part of this year's Northern Exposure Festival with Tovah Stephenson and Jade Barrow.

Feltaholic!

My friend has given me this nickname since she taught me to needle felt last weekend.  I now cannot stop......theres something very relaxing about stab stab stabbing! Of course I had to try making some little mountains to see if they are a possibilty for High as a Kite!

Work is also still underway in the cloud factory! .....mountains and clouds have been bisqued and and all sanded silky smooth ready to be painted, glazed and sent into the stoneware firing!

High as a Kite!

It has been sometime since I have updated (naughty blogger), however many new and exciting creative happenings are evolving! Please take a look at the Things I Make page on this blog as I have added a bunch of photos of some of the ceramic bits and pieces I have been making.

.....as exciting as it is to finally have posted recent work to this blog there is something even bigger in the works. I am now working on a collaborative project with some of my fellow crafty friends to  create an installation for the 2011 Northern Exposure FestivalAfter submitting a successful proposal we have now been paired up with the Westpac bank on High Street Northcote to exhibit a whimsical installation in the front window during this years festival.

The festival opens on Friday 17th June @ 6pm so make sure you check it out!  If you would like to know more about our project you can follow the blog we have created especially for the project which we have titled High as a Kite!

Warrandyte Pottery Expo

I ventured out to the pottery expo in Warrandyte today.  It is such a cute little town.  Driving around those winding bends envoked many memories of my childhood growing up in Kinglake not too far away.  It's amazing that within less than an hour we can be transported from the inner city buzz and out into the beautiful green hills.  It is sad that we don't embrace this opportunity more often. I had a lovely afternoon wandering around with Frida. Not only did we enjoy the great talent on display at the pottery expo but we also enjoyed rummaging in op shops (and really overpriced city op shops in no way compare to these small little rural gems) and soaking in the peace in a cute little cafe called 'roundabout cafe'...... (yes in case you haven't worked it out it is located near the roundabout.

Beautiful Losers

The lovely Bre told me about this documentary ages ago, and it is tonight whilst I am cold and tired that I decided to finally bring it up on the nerd box and watch it. This then became one of those weird moments when you really feel you were meant to experience something 'now.'  What a beautiful inspiring film.  It makes me feel happy to continue creating just for the sake of it.......making things makes me happy and that is all that matters:)

Baking Clay

It is so exciting to arrive at work and see the beautiful Frida in the the studio with her humongous gloves on.  I know what this means, and I am anxious with anticipation. We hoard around the kiln like little children waiting for a cake to come out the oven, except this huge oven has been cooking my newest creations......will they have survived the final firing?! YES! The results are better this time. Ceramics are so unpredictable I can never tell if it is a result of me improving or just pure luck.  Whatever the reason I am happy with todays outcome. Earrings, brooches, and pendants in this lot.  Will add photos once the jewellery making is finished.

In the meantime here's a little sample of the wall hangings.
